FINAL REFLECTION LETTER---- FALL SEMESTER 2013
Dear Dr. Hartman,
This whole semester has been interesting and overall the biggest objective I took from this class was to understand your audience before you start and finish a piece of writing. Understanding your audience can help you form different themes, styles of writing, and even a topic. It can be hard to understand your audience if your topic is very general just picking a specific audience to try to attract made my writing my interesting, and a little more exciting to begin with. Every piece of writing should have a different audience when I was able to do this it help me understand how to build my writing using the rhetorical situation.
With the rhetorical situation the three key points deal with the writer, audience, and purpose. Starting with the piece of writing and understanding my own goals and strength when I started to write; helped me choose my audience, and then lead me to figuring my purpose. Understanding all these key points helped my writing have a better flow once I started and continued to strive to make it better. Overall my purpose has been strong through out most of my writing drafts.
Everyday when I walked into class and started writing into my day book it helped calmed my nerves after having back to back classes. I built a little more confidence everday when I wrote into my day book. My day book was used to takes notes for a better writing draft. Usually when I went step by step with my notes I took in my day book. My last draft officially became really good... Thanks to multiple rough drafts, revising, editing, proof reading, and learning how to critique my work and others.
With my writing group it helped me build my confidence when I had to read out loud to my peers sometime I stumbled over reads because I realized I made a silly mistakes that I should have corrected before I got into the classroom. Overtime I had fewer mistakes and my peers started to like my writing more and more. Technology played a big part in my writing group we used it for drafting, revising, editing, and sharing each other drafts. We used technology to basically to make all of our drafts better.
Understanding and writing different types of writing was very challenging because I was forced to do something I was not used to doing. The start up process was always hard but when I learned a little more about the style of writing. I was able to move forward a lot faster and become more productive when having to write multiple drafts. All these different types of formats brought more knowledge to my writing ability and now I will be able to use it in the future.
Going to the writing center to get a little help to complete my polish piece was very helpful because I was able to sit down with another writer and continue to expand my ideals to show my strengths as a potential great writer. I learned how to stick with the present tence of writing and making sure I stick to that format through out the whole piece.... It did take a little time to fix my mistakes but I was finally able to finish what I started.
Thank You for all your patience and great teaching this semester!
